Service in Action
Chapter Committees
Sixteen working committees carry our mission forward — from membership and policy to wellness, eldercare, fundraising, and storytelling.
Membership
Responsible for recruiting, welcoming, and retaining members who support the mission of NABMW. Builds meaningful connections with active duty, veteran, and retired Black military women, ensures members are engaged and informed, and promotes a sense of sisterhood, service, and advocacy within the organization.
Public Policy
Monitors and advocates on issues that impact Black military women, veterans, and their families. Educates members on relevant legislation within the City of Jacksonville, supports equitable policies, and promotes civic engagement to advance the mission, values, and collective voice of NABMW.
Historical & Events
Preserves and honors the legacy of Black military women while planning and coordinating meaningful events that celebrate service, leadership, and community. Documents organizational history, commemorates milestones, and creates engaging programs that educate, inspire, and connect members and the broader community.
Chapter Social & Gathering
Brings the sisterhood to life by hosting fun, family-friendly events that support connection and joy. From relaxed meet-ups to celebrations, the committee creates safe, welcoming spaces for members and their families to build friendships, recharge, and strengthen community.
Public Relations
Promotes the mission, programs, and impact of the chapter. Manages the chapter's public image by sharing information about veteran services, community outreach, and events through newsletters and press releases. Strengthens relationships with veterans, community partners, and the public while ensuring communications reflect the values and service of the veteran community.
Interfaith Prayer
Nurtures the spiritual well-being of members by offering opportunities for reflection, prayer, and support across diverse faiths. Organizes interfaith gatherings, moments of inspiration, and uplifting activities that foster unity, peace, and spiritual connection within the chapter and the community.
Wellness (Mental & Physical)
Promotes the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of members through programs, resources, and activities that inspire healthy living. Organizes workshops, fitness events, stress-relief initiatives, and self-care opportunities to empower members to thrive in all aspects of life.
Eldercare
Caring for our elderly veterans with compassion, respect, and heart. Supports aging veterans by sharing resources, hosting wellness-focused conversations, and encouraging healthy aging, caregiving balance, and quality of life. Focuses on serving local Veterans Nursing Homes and Senior Veterans Living at Home.
Building Partnerships
Creates strong, meaningful relationships that help our mission grow. Connects with community organizations, veteran groups, businesses, and allies to expand resources, opportunities, and support for Black military women — because we're stronger when we work together.
Ways & Means (Fundraising)
Leads creative and impactful fundraising efforts to support the mission and programs of NABMW. Develops events and campaigns that raise funds while building community, increasing visibility, and empowering Black military women and their families.
Hospitality / Welfare
Makes sure every member feels supported and cared for. Extends compassion during times of celebration or challenge and helps create a warm, inclusive environment at all facets of life. We always remember that sisterhood is about showing up for one another.
IT / Photography
Supports the chapter by managing digital tools, technology, and the creation of the chapter website. Maintains the chapter website and captures photos and videos at events. Highlights the service and sisterhood of Black military women through powerful images and media.
Social Media
Amplifies the voice and visibility of NABMW through engaging, positive, and informative content. Shares stories, promotes events, celebrates achievements, and builds online community — connecting, inspiring, and uplifting Black military women across platforms.
Bylaws
Helps keep the organization strong, fair, and accountable by reviewing, maintaining, and recommending updates to the bylaws. Ensures policies reflect the mission, values, and evolving needs of NABMW while supporting transparency and good governance. Consists of Executive Board members and presents to the general body for discussion and votes.
Budget & Finance
Oversees the financial health of the organization by assisting with budgeting, financial planning, and responsible use of funds. Helps ensure transparency, accountability, and sustainability so NABMW can continue to serve, support, and uplift its members and communities.
Nominations
Supports strong and fair leadership by identifying, encouraging, and presenting qualified candidates for elected positions. Helps ensure an inclusive, transparent nomination process that reflects the values, integrity, and sisterhood of NABMW. Consists of one Chairperson and four chapter members, each serving only one term and not eligible to be a candidate for any elective position. Verifies credentials of all nominees and prepares the slate for a general body vote.
